Benjamin Franklin once said, “An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.” In the spirit of one of our country’s Founding Fathers, and with the support of Denver voters, we are pleased to announce the launch of Prosperity Denver Fund.
Previously known as Denver College Success Corporation, the Fund is a tax-funded nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to post-secondary education opportunities for Denver students. We do this by distributing millions of dollars to eligible Denver-serving nonprofits, known as Supported Organizations, that provide scholarships and academic support services to qualifying Denver students.
Created under a citywide 2018 ballot initiative called Prosperity Denver, the Fund oversees a 0.08% sales tax dedicated to supporting the expansion of Denverites’ access to post-secondary education – from accredited Colorado technical schools to community colleges and universities. This makes it easy for anyone to be a part of creating a more equitable and prosperous Denver.
Today marks our first-ever distribution: $5 million to our Supported Organizations for the 2018/19 academic year. With up to 75% of their qualifying costs reimbursed, Supported Organizations are able to grant even more scholarships to Denver students, expanding impact and creating long-term economic opportunities for the City’s residents.
As a Fund, we make two distributions per year, with the second one scheduled later this year. We encourage you to visit our new website to learn more about Prosperity Denver Fund and, if you are a Denver-serving nonprofit, click here to learn more about becoming a Supported Organization.
We look forward to growing within the community, supporting the future of education, and staying in touch. You can sign up for email updates from Prosperity Denver Fund, or follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
